YHS Girls Track Win Conference

May 12, 2014
By Eva Schoenfielder of Yorkville High School

Congratulations to the girls track team for winning the Northern Illinois Big 12 conference at both the varsity and fr/so levels Friday in Dixon!  Kaneland was the favorite to win at the varsity level, but the girls rose to the occasion and turned in clutch performances to pull away from the Lady Knights and the rest of the conference field. The varsity won by over 47 points and the fr/so won by 56!

This was the first conference title for the girls track team since 1992!

Fr/So event winners included meet-record performances by Erin Reynolds in both the 1600m and 3200m runs, another meet record by Sydney Anderson in the triple jump; and even more meet records in the 4x800m Relay by Katy Kellogg, Becca Jasutis, Piper Buyansky and Alexis Grandys and 4x400m relay of Louisa Washburn, Piper Buyanksy, Becca Jasutis and Maddie Dearborn.

On the varsity level, Mackenzie Lee won the shot put and Jocelyn Ocon won the discus to set meet records in both events. Skyler bollinger set a new meet record in the 1600m as well. Other varsity winners included Kelsey Leedy in the 800m, Skyler Bollinger in the 3200m, Dominque Anderson in the triple jump and the 4x800m relay of Dominque Anderson, Maddie Dearborn, Julia Shultz and Kelsey Leedy and 4x400m Relay of Stephanie Schlitching, Kelsey Leedy, Julia Schultz and Skyler Bollinger.

There were so many great performances, it's hard to list them all. Every YHS athlete competed great and we earned the team titles by being a team! Great work, ladies, and let's keep the momentum going at the sectional Thursday!
