Yorkville Varsity Cheer; State-bound for the first time in the Large division
Congratulations to the Yorkville High School Varsity cheerleaders on an excellent competitive season. The team competed at four invites and conference during the months of November, December, and January to prepare for IHSA Sectionals. Their Sectional was postponed twice due to the weather, and it was finally held on Thursday, February 6 in Bloomington. With tough competitors in their division and a fall in their routine, the girls were concerned they would not make the Top 5 finish required to advance to State Finals the next day. The rest of their routine was difficult and solid enough to pull them through, however, and they ended up finishing 4th in their Sectional.
After a late bus ride home, the YHS Cheer team returned to Bloomington the next day to compete in the IHSA State Finals, marking the first time the team has qualified in the large division (all schools with an enrollment of 1571 students or greater; Yorkville has 1622 students, making YHS cheer one of the smallest schools in the Large division). The girls executed a solid performance, but an unfortunate boundary infraction took them from 16th place in the state to 21st. They achieved the goal they set last summer, which was to make it to state. It was quite an experience going up against the best teams in the state! Nice job ladies! The team would like to thank all of the students, faculty, friends, family, and community members for their support this season.
