Yoncalla Announces Class of 2011 Valedictorian & Salutatorian

Yoncalla High School is proud to announce the valedictorian and salutatorian of the class of 2011.  Amanda McGeorge is the class valedictorian. She is the daughter of AJ and Melody McGeorge.  Her academic record is complete with accomplishments that reflect her outstanding skills in math and science. Amanda is an honor student who has been on the Principal's Honor Roll every semester from 9th through 12th grade.  She is the winner of numerous academic awards and has been awarded a number of scholarships for college.  She has actively participated in extracurricular activities such as leadership, National Honor Society, FBLA and was a starter on the volleyball team for the past two years.  She has been involved in several volunteer activities such as Eagle Pride Day, junior concessions manager, and is an office aide at Yoncalla Elementary School.  She also has experience in leadership serving as her class president and was the ASB vice president and secretary her junior year.  Amanda's favorite classes at YHS are history and leadership.  She loves the subject matter and the fact that both classes are taught by Mrs. Arts.  She credits everyone on the Yoncalla High School staff for her growth as a student.  Her post secondary aspirations include attending college at the University of Oregon and studying psychology with a professional objective of practicing law.

Mathew Wilson is the salutatorian of the class of 2011. He is the son of Randy and Wendy Wilson.  In addition to having achieved the second highest GPA in his class, he also has been on the Principal's Honor Roll since his freshman year. He is a member of the National Honor Society, leadership, and has volunteer experience in Eagle Pride Day, and was a member of the junior concessions team.  His extra-curricular activities include being a four year letterman in football, wrestling and baseball.  He was also one of the captains of the football team and wrestling team.  He was a state wrestling participant his freshman, sophomore and junior year.  He was also part of the YHS band for all four years and has been active in student government as a class representative and ASB Treasurer.  Mathew enjoys his history and math classes.  He loves math because of the challenge it presents.  His love of history revolves around learning from the experiences of others.  Mathew plans to attend Oregon State University and pursue a degree in nuclear engineering.  His long term goal is to move to Europe and build more advanced nuclear power plants.
