McGeorge Wins Elks Scholarship

Yoncalla High School senior Amanda McGeorge has been awarded the Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship.  This scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior.  It is awarded based on leadership, community service, academics, leadership, and extracurricular activities.  Amanda was responsible for going through an application process that involved information about work experience, community service, honors and awards, and leadership and extracurricular activities.  She was also responsible for a 500 word essay dealing with leadership and responsibility.  On Saturday December 11, 2010 Amanda was involved in a grueling interview process along with a group of other potential winners.  After this process, Amanda felt good about her chances of winning the scholarship.  "I was like gold in the interview," she stated.  After waiting for what seemed like an eternity, Amanda was announced as this year's Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship winner.  She will be awarded a $800.00 scholarship beginning next year and will be eligible for the national scholarship opportunity in the future that could total up to $60,000.00.  Congratulations Amanda on your hard work and perseverance.
