Junior guard Kierra Pearson scored a career high 28 points, including seven points in the final minute to lead Woodward to a 60-55, comeback win Wednesday at Aiken. The Falcons jumped out a 16-6 first quarter lead on their Senior Night, but the Bulldogs responded with 28 second-quarter points, including 13 from Pearson, to lead 34-30 at halftime. Aiken edged back ahead in the third quarter and pushed its advantage to six points when junior guard DeShala Howard scored back-to-back fast break layups to put the Falcons ahead, 54-48, with just over two minutes remaining. A basket by Pearson and a free throw by freshman forward Naya Brown trimmed the lead to 54-51 with one minute remaining. Pearson hit three more free throws to tie the score, and, after an Aiken turnover, a Pearson jumper put the Bulldogs ahead with 40 seconds remaining. After Aiken converted one of two free throws with 22 seconds remaining, Pearson hit another jumper to broaden Woodward’s lead to 58-55, and a steal and layup by junior Tamia Mason provided the final margin. Senior forward Kyrie Watkins added eight points and 10 rebounds to remain the CMAC’s leading rebounder. Aiken was led by senior guard Jasmine Davis, who had 16 points, eight steals, and five assists. Howard added 12 points off the bench, with junior guard Tasheena Porter contributing 10 points. With the win, Woodward evens its overall record at 10-10 and finishes CMAC play with a 6-6 mark.
