Home » Football NewsMistakes too much for Wolverines, fall to Mayer Lutheran 43-14September 9, 2012 By Chuck Hartman of Sibley East FootballSibley East started the game by forcing a fumble on the kickoff, then on the fifth play from scrimmage converted that take-away into seven points and led the home Crusaders 7-0 minutes into the game. But that lead would vanish quickly. On the ensuing kickoff Mayer Lutheran raced through a crease in the Wolverine kickoff coverage and found the endzone. The extra point tied the game at 7-7. Mayer Lutheran would add two more touchdowns in the first quarter and lead 21-7. Sibley East would fall behind 35-7 at halftime due to uncharacteristic mistakes on offense and defense. Mayer Lutheran added one more score, as did the Wolverines on a five-yard pass from QB Brody Rodning to senior TE Tyler Bates. For Bates it was his third receiving TD of the year. Ben White led the defense with 19 total tackles, and added a blocked punt and a blocked extra point in the loss.
