Home » Football NewsWolverines run past T-Birds 34-8September 2, 2012 By Chuck Hartman of Sibley East FootballSibley East started the season with a 34-8 victory at Stan Cina Field Friday over the GFW Thunderbirds. It is the third consecutive time SE has opened the season with a win over the T-Birds, and four out of five years since 2008. The Wolverines opened the scoing on a TD run by junior RB Erik Danielson and a 6-0 lead after one quarter. The Wolverines then turned to the air as junior QB Brody Rodning hooked up with senior TE Tyller Bates (5rec 84 yards 2TD) for a score to put the Wolverines up 13-0 at the break. In the second half the Wolverines began to grind down the Thunderbirds using a three-headed backfield. Aaron Bates added another score, as did Brandon Ashton and the Wolverines built up a 34-0 lead before GFW found the endzone with about 1:00 to play in the game. As the Wolverine offense moved the ball the "Black Shirts" defense stuffed GFW's option attack and held it's passing game in check most of the night allowing only 59 yards rushing all night. Ben White lead the team with 17 tackles and two forced fumbles. This Friday the Wolverines travel to take on the 1-0 Mayer Lutheran Crusaders.
