WNCC baseball falls to Colorado State 9-5

FT. COLLINS, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team had its four-game winning streak snapped by the Colorado State University club team on Tuesday in Fort Collins, Colo.
The Cougars gave up five runs in the eighth inning in dropping a 9-5 setback.
WNCC opened the game strongly as Benly Ramos ignited a three-run first inning with a two-run double.
WNCC went up 4-0 with a single run in the third as Ramos smashed a solo home run.
CSU closed within 4-2 with two runs in the fourth before WNCC added a run in the fifth to go up 5-2. However, the Rams scored seven unanswered runs to earn the win. In the pivotal eighth inning, CSU scored five runs on four hits, including three doubles.
The Cougars sent a number of pitchers to the mound in the game. Terry McNabb got the start and allowed just one hit and struck out one in three innings. WNCC then threw one pitcher an inning the rest of the way.
Challis Wright gave up two runs on two hits, while striking out two. Dalton Goings also struck out two and allowed one run on three hits.
Zak Porter took the loss. He gave up four runs on four hits and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning.
Offensively, the Cougars finished with eight hits. Jake Vore and Ramos each had two hits. Vore was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and a run scored, while Ramos was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs.
The Cougars, now 7-7 on the season, will return to Empire Conference play this weekend with games at Lamar Community College on Friday and Saturday. WNCC will then play at Otero Junior College on Sunday before heading to Arizona for its spring break road trip.
