Wildcats Invited to "Sweet 16"

For more than a decade the Minnesota Basketball News has been projecting who they feel will be the top 4 teams in each of the state's four classes and bringing them together to compete in a tournament dubbed the "Sweet 16".
One of the top teams from each class is put into each of the four parts of the bracket so at the end of the weekend a pre-season state champion is crowned. For years, the teams that have appeared in the championship game of this tourney have been locks to be in their class's state tournament.
This August, our Wildcats will have the honor of competing in this prestigious event. The other three teams invited from class AAA are defending champions Park Center, state tourney team Kasson-Mantorville, and Wright County Conference champion Orono.
The AAAA field includes defending state champion Eastview, state tourney entrants Eden Prairie and St. Michael-Albertville, and perennial power Hopkins. From class AA the teams are Minnehaha Academy, Chatfield, Dover-Eyota, and Plainview-Elgin-Millville. The class A invites went to Blooming Prairie, Lyle-Pacelli, Mt. Iron-Buhl, and Red Lake.
Saturday Aug. 2nd and Sunday Aug 3rd the anticipated best teams in the state will converge on the campus of St. Ben's. The boys Sweet 16 tourney takes place that weekend as well at the same site, so there will be plenty of good basketball!
Now, the Wildcats are confronted with the challenge of living up to these lofty expectations. Obviously with a sub .500 record this season there is much work to be done, but greatness is within our grasp...all that remains is putting in the time and the work!
