The Cats did not shoot well and offensive rebounds were in short supply as Dassel-Cokato downed Waconia 84-71 on Thursday night. After two strong rebounding games the Cats could not corral the ball off the rim as much as they needed to. The Chargers outrebounded Waconia 45-33 and they grabbed 18 offensive rebounds.
Another key stat was D-C's ability to handle the Wildcat pressure as the Cats were only able to create 17 turnovers, well under their season average.
Waconia scored only 5 points at the free throw line on 10 attempts. D-C was 14 for 22 at the stripe on a night when the refs were rather reluctant to blow their whistle.
Anna Schmitt netted 25 points and Miranda Schultz added 13. Only 8 Wildcats scored in the game.
The JV team struggled against the Charger pressure and they fell by 10. The 9th grade Cats built a big lead but then the Cats went cold shooting and D-C made it a 3 point game with a minute to play. Ellie Hukriede went 4 for 4 at the free throw line in the closing seconds to secure the win.
All 3 teams return to the court on Saturday as they make the drive to take on perennial class AA power New London-Spicer.
