Wildcats Douse Dragons

It's not often you can say that a team missed 19 layups, shot 19% on 3's, 57% on free throws and that the team also won the game. Not only did they win the game, they won 102-72!
But that was the case when our Wildcats slayed the Dragons from Litchfield on Friday night. The Waconia defense was able to get several steals including 9 by Anna Schmitt and 6 by Miranda Schultz and they flustered the young Dragons all night long. Litchfield was forced into a total of 34 turnovers. By contrast the Cats committed only 9 turnovers. Kaylee Vanderhoff also had an impact on defense with a season high 7 blocked shots.
Litchfield dominated the glass outrebounding Waconia 37-29. The Dragons also had the edge at the free throw line making 19 of their 35 shots (54%) while Waconia was 11 for 19 (57%).
Waconia was just 11 for 58 on 3 point attempts (19%) and while the squad made plenty of layups they left over 30 points off the scoreboard by missing no fewer than 19 shots from one foot away. If and when the Wildcats can consistently shoot the ball effectively they will be one of the most dangerous teams in the state.
Anna Schmitt led the scoring with 32 points. She also dished out 11 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds. Miranda Schultz scored 20 and Madelin Dammann added 18 points. 12 different players scored for the Cats and every eligible player played in the game.
The JV team won in convincing fashion as they raced out to a 48-18 lead at halftime on their way to a 76-36 win. Tatum Johnson had 16 points and Ally Fuller netted 12 to lead the way.
Our 9th grade Cats also earned a win. They topped Litchfield 54-48. Ellie Hukriede had 18 points and Lauren McNulty added 10.
The Wildcats return to the court on Tuesday when they host Holy Family. It is "Youth Night" so community ed and WBA players get in free. They will also receive a team poster and have a chance to win door prizes at halftime.
