Waconia Outruns Mankato West

There was nothing easy about Waconia's 99-92 win over Mankato West on Saturday, but when the final horn sounded the Cats had collected a hard earned victory.
Waconia was not very effective on shots in the paint as they made only 14 of their 48 attempts. (29.1%) Fortunately the 3 point shot came to the Cats rescue as they converted 15 of their 44 attempts (34.1%). Waconia collected 27 points at the free throw line as well.
Mankato West was 28 for 76 (36.8%). Their 34 turnovers meant they attempted 16 fewer shots than the Cats. They made up the difference at the free throw line where they converted 30 of their 42 free throws including a stellar 17 for 22 performance from their leading scorer, Lexi Schoper. She led all scorers in the game with 37 points.
Madelin Dammann and Anna Schmitt led the way for Waconia with 20 and 22 points respectively. Kaylee Vanderhoff had 14 points and 5 blocked shots to anchor the defense.Brenna Rice was the other Wildcat to reach double figures as she scored 12.
The JV Cats started hot and turned a 40 to 27 hafltime lead into a 70-53 victory. Ally Fuller made 3 three pointers in the first 2 minutes of the game to set the tone. She went on to lead all scorers with 17 points.
Our 9th grade Cats dropped a very close contest coming up 3 points short.
All 3 teams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Hutchinson to resume conference play.
