Wildcats Wallop Waseca

December 29, 2013
Waconia Girls Basketball MN

The Wildcat JV trailed 19-4 mid-way through the first half of their game and they had not made a single basket other than free throws. But when the first shot fell it started a flood of field goals that would propel the JV onto a 42-10 run and ultimately a 70-40 victory. Natalie Benson paced the JV with 15 points.

Waconia's varsity did not suffer from a slow start as they erupted for a 25-2 lead to open the game and built a 63-26 halftime advantage. After running time kicked in the Cats coasted to a 99-59 win over the Blue Jays.

Anna Schmitt had a "quiet" 25 points and 11 assists and Madelin Dammann continued to finish well at the rim to contribute 21. Miranda Schultz was the only other Cat to reach double figures as she added ten points. 11 different players scored for Waconia.

Kaylee Vanderhoff led the rebounding parade pulling down 9. Kelsey Eder and Emily Anderson both contributed 6 boards.

Waconia finally found their stroke from beyond the arc as they knocked down 8 three's in the first half and 14 for the game. Eight different Wildcats made a 3 in the game.
Another encouraging sign was Waconia's proficiency at the free throw line as they made 13 of their 16 attempts.

The Cats committed 21 turnovers while they forced 34 turnovers by Waseca including 19 steals.

The Wildcats will enjoy another break before they return to action at Mankato West on Saturday Jan. 4th.
