Hawks Race Past Wildcats

The Wildcats were able to stay close with the Chaska Hawks until the final 2 minutes of the first half, then the Hawks flew away for a 108-65 victory.
Waconia knocked down 7 three pointers in the first half and with just 2 minutes left to play they trailed Chaska 52-41 but that is when Chaska went on a 14-2 run to close the half and take a commanding 66-43 lead into the locker room. The Wildcats were never able to recover in the second half and the game started to get out of hand.
Chaska made 40 of their 62 two point attempts (64.5%) and 5 of their 10 three pointers. Another key stat for the Hawks is the fact they committed only 14 turnovers for the game. By contrast, Waconia would turn the ball over 37 times and the baskets were much harder to come by as the Cats converted only 12 of their 41 two point attempts (29.2%) while making 9 of their 34 three point shots (26.4%). Waconia also struggled at the free throw line making just 12 of their 29 attempts. (41.3%)
Anna Schmitt led the point parade for Waconia with 18. Madelin Dammann and Kendall Eder joined her in double figures with 10 each. Ten different players scored for Waconia.
The JV team built a 52-22 lead at halftime and earned a 72-52 victory. Natalie Benson poured in 17 points. Ally Fuller added 15, and Tatum Johnson netted 11. The JV team nailed 14 three pointers in the game. The JV team did a particularly good job creating turnovers with their press and crashing the offensive boards.
The 9th grade played a competitive game but fell short 46-35.
All teams return to action on Tuesday as the squad travels to Big Lake to take on the Hornets.
