Our Wildcats were involved in another up and down contest, losing on a last second shot to Mound 93-91. A frantic first half found the Cats on top 58-52. Waconia put up those points despite making only 6 of 25 3 point attempts (24%). Anna Schmitt was key in keeping the Cats in the lead as she scored 26 first half points.
The Whitehawks were red hot shooting in the first half, making 19 of 29 shots (65%). The Wildcat defense was not as effective as it had been in previous games and the Cats also cost themselves by committing 20 turnovers in the 1st half.
Mound cooled off in the 2nd half, but the Cats never caught fire. Mound finished the game making 35 of their 66 shots (51%) while Waconia was 36 for 98 (36.7%). Also concerning for the Cats was their poor 3 point shooting as they converted only 8 of their 49 shots (16.3%). Mound also bested Waconia at the free throw line making 22 of 29 shots while Waconia cashed in on only 11 of their 22 free shots.
Waconia won the battle on the boards hauling down 49 rebounds while the Whitehawks collected 39. The Cats finished the game with 28 turnovers. Mound committed 34.
Anna Schmitt continued her hot shooting as she led all scorers with 39 points. She also had 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 steals. Miranda Schultz and Madelin Dammann added 11 points a piece. Damman had 7 rebounds as did Brenna Rice. Kaylee Vanderhoff collected 8 boards.
The Cats are now 2 and 2 on the season and they'll travel to New Prague on Tuesday to take on top 10 ranked New Prague.
