Wildcats Outscore Hot Shooting Hutch
January 8, 2013Waconia Girls Basketball MN
Stop me if you've seen this one before... the Wildcats trailed by 8 at halftime to a sub .500 team only to rally for a 77-71 conference victory.
While the Hutchinson Tigers are co-defending conference champions they have struggled to a 3 and 9 record so far this season and have averaged just 44 points per game. They had no such offensive struggles on Tuesday night as they made 23 of 49 shots from the floor (46.9%). They were also an impressive 21 for 27 at the free throw line.
Fortunately our Wildcats were able to answer basket for basket as they made 29 of 58 shots (50%) and 17 of their 20 free throw attempts.
Anna Schmitt led three players in double figures with a game high 26 points on 11 for 14 shooting. Morgan Iverson added 14 point and Caroline Jacobs netted 13. Schmitt was also the teams’ leading rebounder with 5 and she grabbed 6 of the team’s 11 steals.

After getting outrebounded 13-9 in the first half the Wildcats would control the boards in the second frame and end up collecting 27 rebounds to Hutch’s 24. A huge key to the win was the fact that the Wildcats limited the Tigers to just 2 offensive rebounds in the final 18 minutes.
Waconia is now 8 and 5 overall and 4 and 0 in the Wright County Conference.
The JV Cats controlled the game from start to finish and earned a 25 point win over Hutch. The night did not go so well for the 9th graders as they suffered just their second loss of the season in lopsided fashion. Next up for all three squads is a trip to Shakopee to face the Sabres. The varsity game tips off at 3pm.
