Boys and Girls XC teams finish 3rd in Conference. Hatley, Barber,Boles and Helms make All Conference

  The 2010 Cross Country Finals for the Northwest 1A/2A Conference were held at Fisher River Park in Dobson on Tuesday October 19, 2010. Eight of the nine schools from the Northwest 1A/2A conference had runners participating in the event.

  West Stokes boys and girls both finished in third place. In the boys race, Surry Central won the championship with 39 points. Bishop McGuinness and the Wildcats finished tied for second with 64 points but the Boys from Bishop won the runner up trophy with the tie breaker, that being their number 6 runner finished higher than West Stokes number 6. Fourth place went to North Stokes. Mt Airy was fifth, South Stokes sixth and North Surry finished seventh.

  The race was won by Matus Kriska of Mt Airy with a time of 16:59. The first Wildcat to finish was Nathan Hatley who crossed the line 3rd in a time of 17:43. Following him was Jason Barber, 4th in 17:53. Next was Garrett Martin who ran 18:28 for 12th place. The rest of the Wildcat finishers were Nick Pinch, 20th, 19:01; Aaron Lipchak, 25th,19:48;Cameron Shaw,41st,22:25; Kenneth Erickson, 54th,22:47 and TJ Daniel 56th, 22:57. 71 boys from 8 schools finished the event.

  North Stokes won the girls championship with 47 points. Bishop McGuinness was second with 56 points. The Ladycats finished third with 68 points. Mt Airy scored 83

points for fourth place and South Stokes finished fifth with 101 points.

  Jodie Lemons of North Stokes was the race winner in a time of 19:41. Erica Boles was the first West Stokes runner to finish as she completed the course in 21:29 for 4th place. Hannah Helms followed in 9th place with a time of 22:07. Braeden Barr was next in 13th place finishing at 22:22. She was followed by Lakin Crumley, 19th, 23:43; Anna Russell, 23rd, 24:38 and Rachel White, 26th, 25:08.

  Nathan Hatley and Jason Barber were selected to the Boys All Conference team. This was Nathan's third selection as All Conference. Erica Boles and Hannah Helms were selected to the Girls All Conference team also for the third time.
