Cross Country teams mix it up at the 4th Annual Fisher River Run

On Saturday, September 18, 2010, Fisher River Park in Dobson hosted it's 4th Annual Fisher River Run. The race conditions couldn't have been more perfect for the runners as the temps were in the high 70's at the start and mid 80's when it all finished around noon. With a bright Carolina Blue sky, a wide open course with a few tight trails and rolling hills, the event couldn't have been a more fan friendly one to watch. The day started out with an adults open race followed by a middle school race, the Varsity Boys race, Varsity Girls race, JV Boys race and finally the JV Girls race. In the Open Adults race, 4 brave souls took to the course. Mr. Todd Martin, father of West Stokes's Garrett Martin finished 3rd with a time of 25:53.
In the Varsity Boys race, 100 boys representing 17 schools took to the course. When it was over, Mt. Airy's Matus Kriska blistered the course with a new Fisher River Park record of 16:19. The first Wildcat to finish was Garrett Martin who paced the team with a time of 18:01, good for 7th place. He was followed by Jason Barber, 10th with a time of 18:08. Nick Pinch was next at 19:09 finishing 26th. Thomas Hawkins followed in 58th place in 20:33. Aaron Lipchak was 60th finishing with a time of 20:35. Next was Cameron Shaw, 82nd, 22:22 and TJ Daniel 87th at 22:54. West Stokes Boys finished in 5th place.
The Varsity Girls race had 95 girls competing from 20 schools. Carol Blankenship from East Wilkes High School broke her own Fisher River Park record winning the race with a time of 19:16. Hannah Helms was the first of West Stokes girls to finish as she crossed the line 8th with a time of 21:53. Erica Boles followed her in 13th place with a time of 22:24. Anna Russell was the third Ladycat to finish completing the course in 23:35 for 26th place. Next was Braeden Barr, 37th with a time of 24:24 and Rachel White, 51st at 25:11. The Lady Wildcats finished tied for 3rd place with Bishop McGuinness.
West Stokes had 2 boys entered in the JV Boys race. Freshman Matthew Garr finished 22nd out of 77 runners with a time of 21:17. Freshman Kenneth Erickson was 39th in 22:33. The race was won by Abram Logan of East Wilkes High School with a time of 18:42.
