West Stokes took the lead at halftime but couldn't hold on in a 58-43 Northwest 1A/2A Conference loss to Winston-Salem Prep on Tuesday night.
Austin Fleming had 19 points to lead all scorers for the Wildcats and Brett Boyles chipped in with 10.
The Wildcats (6-5 overall, 5-1 league) were handed their first conference loss of the season while the Phoenix improved to 6-0. Anthony Thomas had 15 points and Jamal McNeil scored 14 for Prep, which trailed 22-20 but outscored West 23-10 in the third quarter.
"We played them close. It was not a bad one," West coach Dan Spainhour said. "It stayed about seven or eight points in the fourth quarter before they closed it out with a little run. We are pretty well pleased."
West is scheduled to take on East Surry on the road Thursday.
