Chargers Fall to Lakers in Soccer Semis
October 10, 2013By Tom Schermerhorn of West Noble High School
West Noble Coach Ampelio Pizana’s 3rd ranked boys’ soccer team lost a heartbreaker last night in the Westview Sectional against the Lakeland Lakers 4-3 in front of a large and loud crowd in Emma. The Chargers had defeated the Lakers twice before this year, but the third time was not meant to be for the senior laden team from West Noble. The Chargers fell behind 3-0 early in the game before sophomore Hector Luevano connected for a goal leading into halftime. The Lakers then scored a 4th early on in the 2nd half before Abel Zamarripa tallied 2 second half goals for the Chargers to make the score 4-3 with less than 12 minutes remaining in the game. The Chargers could not tie the match up as the tough Laker squad doubled and triple teamed West Noble scoring leader Uriel Macias down the stretch. Other Charger players stepped up and took good shots on goal, but the Laker defense was just good enough to keep the shots out of the goal. The Chargers finished the year at 14-3-1 and were NECC tournament and Regular season champions. Great job this year and we are very proud of the entire team!
