IHSAA Tip of the Week

March 13, 2013
By Tom Schermerhorn of West Noble High School

Being a substitute in a team sport is a challenging position for anyone playing high school sports.  Have you played that role before, or are you currently in that role?

It takes everyone on the team contributing in order to be a successful unit.  You may be developing your skills to earn that starting position or you may be a role player for your team.

Either way, you must always be prepared and ready when called upon.  The question all coaches ask is "can I count on this athlete?"

Your attitude and effort in practice, on the bench and in the game will make a difference when your coach is considering who to put in.  If you want more minutes, be the athlete your coach can count on!
