Chargers Fall to Lady Redskins
December 5, 2012By Tom Schermerhorn of West Noble High School
The West Noble girls fought illness and foul trouble before falling to a talented Goshen team 76-58. The Chargers battled strong all night, jumping out to a 19-18 first quarter lead before Goshen took advantage of the Chargers foul trouble and went into the intermission with the lead to stay at 38-27. West Noble made a run at the lead a couple times in the second half but could not overtake a strong Goshen team. Leading the way was Kelsie Peterson with 26 points, followed by Haley Richardson, who fought foul trouble all night with 14, freshmen KJ Cox who also fought fouls with 11. Another freshmen Paige Shearer had 4 and Ashley Shepherd added 3. No less than 11 ladies played on the night including four freshmen contributing to the varsity cause. West Noble was without the services of starter Taylor Fisher and varsity subs Cara Groff and Kohdee Hicks due to illness.
The JV ladies suffered their second defeat of the year 26-25 after a frantic comeback in the fourth quarter. Paige Shearer had 11, Sandra Carrillo and Brooke Lutton 4, Becca Schermerhorn 3, Kendal Baker 2 and Shawna Young with 1. The JV record now stands at 5-2.
The varsity takes its 4-4 record to Churubusco Friday for a conference showdown with the JV starting at 6:00.
