Chargers Hold Off Warriors in OT
February 6, 2012By Tom Schermerhorn of West Noble High School
The West Noble Chargers traveled to Emma Friday night to take on the 15-1 Westview Warriors. The visiting Chargers shocked the home crowd by holding the host Warriors to just 3 points with 5 minutes left to go in the 2nd quarter on their way to a 45-44 overtime win. The Chargers came out in a zone defense and that seemed to stifle the normally efficient Westview team. The Chargers took a 21-9 halftime lead with the defense and rebounding leading the way. While leading nearly the entire game, West Noble needed the heroics of junior Nick Thomas as he hit the 2nd of2 free throws with .6 seconds left on the clock to give the Chargers the victory. Sophomore Keith Gibson helped the Chargers outrebound the Warriors with a game high 11 rebounds to go with 9 points. Junior Nick Noe lead with 10 points and he also grabbed 4 rebounds. Other Charger contributors were Drew Schermerhorn with 9, Nick Thomas 7, Jordan Younce 6, Phil Miller 2 and Armando Rosales 2. Miller also added 7 rebounds while Thomas added 5. The Chargers were very poised from the line as they knocked down 19-21 free throws. It was the first time that West Noble has beaten Westview AT Westview in over 20 years. The Chargers have now defeated NorthWood, Fairfield and Westview in the span of 7 days. All games were on the road. Great job guys! Next up for the Chargers will be Northridge on Saturday with the JV game starting at 1pm.
