Home » Girls' Soccer NewsWest Jones Lady Mustang SoccerJune 16, 2008 By iHigh Staff of West Jones Jr Sr High SchoolBy Carly Jo Winship In November of 2006, when we (the Lady Mustang soccer team) stepped onto the field for the first time of the season, we stepped with a vision. Our dream for the team was clear - we wanted to win state, and we were willing to work for it. After going 21-0-1 through regular season, we entered playoffs in first place in our district. We were scheduled to play Oxford during the first round. After nail-biting action, we pulled out with our first playoff win of the season (2-1). Our team was on cloud nine. Never had we been so proud of each other, and never had we been so confident. Saturday, February 3, was the day our team had been looking forward to all season. With help from parents, fans, coaches and especially the boys' soccer team, we were pumped up and ready to play four-time state champions Ridgeland. It was a rough game. Although we lost, we realized some things. You don't have to win to be proud. Just because you lose doesn't mean you didn't have the game of your life. But most importantly, one person doesn't make the entire team. Our season has been so memorable. Going undefeated through the regular season is such an indescribable feeling but sharing it with people like the ones I have, makes it even better. These girls are so much more than teammates to me. They have become heroes, inspirations, and lifelong friends. I couldn't pick a better bunch of girls to share the season.
