Laurel wins division over West
January 28, 2014West Jones Jr Sr High School
Laurel—The Mustangs went to Laurel with the district 5-5A title on the line. West needed a victory to send the standings into a tie breaker scenario. Laurel previously beat the Mustangs 1-0.
The home team would take a 1-0 lead halfway through the opening half. The Mustangs had a few good looks at the Tornado net, but could not finish any of them.
“We were doing a much better job of building our attack in the rematch,” said Coach Winship. “Unfortunately for us, so were they.”
Laurel stormed out in the second half and knocked in a second goal to extend their lead. With about ten minutes remaining in the match, the Tornados put in their third goal.
Senior keeper Jacob Hauenstein saved seven of ten Tornado shots on frame. The Mustangs have virtually clinched a playoff berth with the final match on the horizon with South Jones. West beat South 4-0 in the first game. West fell to 6-11-1.
