Mustangs open The Show with win over Vicksburg

The Show—The Mustangs opened our tournament with a match against Vicksburg.
It took little time for the Mustang offense to get going. In the 3rd minute, freshman Alek Harper took a pass from senior forward Austin Herrington and scored the game winner.
In the ninth minute, senior forward Omar Garcia chipped a ball over the Gator defense to junior midfielder Kyle Estess. He set the ball onto his right foot and sent a driven ball into the upper left corner extending the lead to 2-0.
In the 15th minute, senior forward Chase Brown was in a race with the Gator centerback. The ball was touched away from Brown towards midfield. Sophomore midfielder Matthew Wade intercepted the ball and played a beautiful through ball to Estess. He again beat the keeper to the left corner, and the Mustangs led 3-0 at the half.
Harper would add his second goal of the game in the 33rd minute when senior holding midfielder Landon Bullock played a ball out wide for Harper to run onto.
Vicksburg senior forward Chad Williams scored the lone Gator goal in the 48th minute.
The Mustangs would score their final goal of the game after senior keeper Jacob Hauenstein moved out into the field as a forward. With seven minutes remaining, the Mustang moved the ball with a series of quick passes. The ball ended up with Hauenstein. He sent a ball toward goal. Junior forward Jean Carlos Rivera ended up with the ball in front of him and an open goal. He scored his first of the night and extended the Mustang lead to 5-1.
Hauenstein had 6 saves of Vicksburg's 7 shots while 8th grade keeper Jess Cooley made three saves.
The Mustangs, 5-7-1 and will face Florence and #1 Madison Central on Day 2.
