Waynesboro—The scoreless streak was finally snapped as the visiting Mustangs took a 3-0 win at rival Wayne County.
Senior forward Omar Garcia would be the one to score the first goal of the match. Junior midfielder Kyle Estess drove a ball toward the right side of the end line and sent a great crossing pass behind the War Eagle’s keeper. Garcia was waiting and struck the volley into the net giving West a 1-0 lead.
“It was a great relief to get an early lead,” said Coach Winship. “It was not in our favor for this game to go scoreless into the half. The boys got it done early, and that helped out a ton.”
The Estess to Garcia connection worked again in the second half and moments later, Garcia found Estess cutting for the third Mustang goal of the night.
Senior keeper Jacob Hauenstein made four routine saves to post his second shutout win of the season.
The defense was stellar in the shutout. Seniors Austin Herrington, Landon Bullock and Dylan Blackburn, juniors Erik Buckley and Reese Ishee and freshman Will Harrelson kept the ball away from the Mustang end all night.
