NEJ defeat Mustangs 1-0
December 16, 2013West Jones Jr Sr High School
NEJ—The Mustangs faced Northeast Jones in a non-district match up of county rivals. West had the early run of play sending several shots on frame and forcing the Tiger keeper to make several saves.
The Mustangs settled in on offense in the first half. “We held possession most of the game,” said Coach Winship. “We missed too many shots early and that set the tone for the match.”
The Tigers dropped numbers behind the ball and looked to pack in the defense.
The only score of the game came early in the second half. Junior midfielder Dillon Pryor took advantage of a bad clearing pass from West and hammered a ball into the upper right corner of the goal giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead with 35 minutes to play.
The Mustangs would attack the rest of the game. The Mustang defenders joined the offense for the last fifteen minutes and kept the ball in the attacking end, but could get the equalizer.
The Mustangs open district next week at Wayne County.
