Mustang Field—West Jones remained undefeated in District 5-5A play with a resounding 9-3 victory over rival Wayne County. Senior forward Peyton French had the single best goal scoring night in school history as he put six balls into the War Eagle net with the first just 29 seconds after kickoff.

In the 4th minute, French added his second after junior fullback Austin Herrington sent a ball from the backline into space behind the Eagle line allowing French to finish. Shortly thereafter, the War Eagles scored their first goal of the night.

French scored his third off a quality crossing pass from 8th grade midfielder Alek Harper. Wayne County scored their second goal of the night cutting the lead to 3-2. Senior midfielder Evan Buckley sent a ball from the center circle setting up French’s fourth goal of the half.

Sophomore forward Kyle Estess took another Herrington pass and crossed up the outside right fullback before finishing by the Wayne County keeper. The score at the half was 6-2 Mustangs.

French would score an early goal to start the second half. Buckley added his first goal of the night off an assist by Estess. French would then add his sixth goal off a through ball from Estess.

“It is always impressive to see someone score that many goals in one match,” said Coach Craig Winship. “Peyton has worked extremely hard getting back from his injury this summer. He could have easily hung it up, but he has been ahead of schedule all fall. I am very proud to see him and our team have such a great night tonight.”

Senior fullback Chance Clark would end the Mustang scoring attack with a goal off a corner kick that saw him make a series of moves before finishing into the right corner. Wayne County would score a late goal to make the final score 9-3. Junior keeper Jacob Hauenstein would save three of five shots and 7th grade keeper Jess Cooley stopped five of six.
