Lady Mustangs drop Show finale 4-3 to Meridian Lady Wildcats

Shiloh Park, Brandon - After several hours of downtime at The Show, the Lady Mustangs returned to the stage for their final match of the day vs 6A Meridian.

The Wildcats would score first on a breakaway early in the match. West would score the equalizer five minutes later when junior forwards Beth Coleman and Payton Roney combined to play a short corner. As the defenders raced out, Roney sent a cross into the box. 8th grade midfielder Meredith Follis redirected the ball into the net.

The game would stay tied into the half, but Meridian would score the next two goals in rapid succession of a few missed tackles and more 1v1 breakaways with sophomore keeper Abby Baravik. Coleman scored off a bended corner kick before Meridian added a 4th.

Roney would score the last Mustang goal off a hard shot the was mishandled by the Meridian keeper.

"It was disappointing to see us go into emergency mode so quickly," said Coach Winship. "We have to work more on trusting our teammates and staying within our sys-tem. It’ll come around."
