Buckley’s Hat Trick not enough to beat Sacred Heart
December 17, 2012West Jones Jr Sr High School
Mustang Field—The Mustangs would lose their second consecutive home game in a high scoring 5-3 duel with Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart would get on the board in the first five minutes of play, and the Mustangs would struggle with the coordinated attack from the Crusaders all night.
Senior midfielder Evan Buckley would steal a goal kick, make a series of quick moves and bury the shot to tie the game at 1-1.
Just before the half, Buckley would receive a through ball from sophomore midfielder Kyle Estess giving the Mustangs another 2-1 halftime lead.
“The run of play was definitely not with us in the first half, but it’s a testament to our boys’ resolve in getting the early lead,” said Coach Craig Winship.
Sacred Heart would score the next three goals in running to a 4-2 lead. Buckley would score on a penalty kick late, but Sacred Heart added a late goal of their own in pushing the final score to 5-3.
“We have to find a way to get more consistent play from our offense and not rely on a big plays. Possession and movement is the key and we will be working on that over the next few weeks,” added Coach Winship. “We are not playing soft competition right now and it should pay off in our district matches in December and January.”
