No one expected Cinderella to show up, let alone her twin sister, but that's what happened at the2011 Las Vegas Fab 48 when tourney favorites like the Drew Gooden Soldiers, Mac Irvin Fire, Playaz BasketballLV_Fab48 Club, Brandon Bass Elite, and Belmont Shore went down in the early rounds of the tournament and two unlikely title game combatants Team Breakdown and the KC 76'ers survived to the final last night in Las Vegas. So no matter how we looked at it Cinderella was going home with the crown at the Fab 48.

Fab 48 Championship - KC 76'ers 79 - Team Breakdown 64

It was close throughout as the 76'ers built a six point lead in the first half, 22-16, with 6:44 to play behind some solid play by 5-11 point Benjamin Parker and 6-6 junior Ishmael Wainright. But, Team Breakdown made a run late in the half going on a 10-3 run to take a 31-30 lead into the half-time break. Their charge was fueled by 6-6 A.J. Astroth who hit two threes down the stretch to finish with 18 first half points.

The second half saw Team Breakdown continue their momentum to build a 37-32 lead in the opening minutes, before the 76'ers came back to knot it at 41-all with twelve minutes to play. From that point on Breakdown seemed to slowly lose their shooting legs, as the 76'ers opened up a 63-52 lead with just under five minutes left. Breakdown cut the lead back to six, 68-62, on back to back baskets by 5-9 point guard Stefan Moody, but that was as close as they would get. The 76'ers finished the game on a 11-2 run to behind the play of 6-6 Broderick Newbill to close out a 79-64 victory in the Championship final at Bishop Gorman High.

The KC 76'ers were led by Newbill with 22 points, sixteen in the second half when games were on the line, while Wainwright finished with 13 points and 6-5 Clint McCullough chipped in with 10 points in the win. Breakdown's top gun was Astroth who tied for game honors with 22 points, while 6-11 junior Tonye Jekiri added 12 points, Stefan Moody 10 points and highly regarded 6-8 forward Demetrius Henry finished with nine points for the Florida squad in the final.
