2014 Fullcourt Press Spring League: Report I

(March 3, 2014)

The 2014 Fullcourt Press Spring League tipped-off last Sunday (March 2nd) at Cabrillo High School (Long Beach CA).  This year’s league consists of 8 individual (“Select”) teams as well as 12 club (“Elite”) squads such as Belmont Shore, Pangos Elite, Compton Magic and Inland.

While we are still waiting for several of the league’s expected players to finish their HS seasons and join the league, listed below are a few of the standouts from the league’s opening Sunday.

LaRond Williams                            6’8”     2015   St. Anthony (Long Beach CA)
Long and active PF can finish well on the block and is a terrific rebounder and rim-protector.  If he can continue to connect on perimeter jump shots like he did on Sunday he may very well move from mid-major to high major status come July.

Jonathan Ross                               6’8”     2015   St. Anthony (Long Beach CA)
Young big with tons of potential runs very well and was active in the paint here – finishing high above the rim when he got his hands on the rock inside.  Underrated post passer and defender.  Prime MM+ target.

Tristan Hunter                                 6’2”     2015   Imperial (Imperial CA)
Crafty combo-guard can knock down jump shots with regularity as well as finish at the cup.

Sequan Walker                               6’2”     2015   Cabrillo (Long Beach CA)
Smooth shooting off-guard is quickly becoming a better ballhandler and passer.  Improving defender too.  Wyoming and Pepperdine showing interest.

Vittorio Reynoso-Avila                  6’5”     2016   La Mirada (La Mirada CA)
Long and active young WF has a soft shooting touch and attacks the basket with authority.  Off the charts student (4.6 GPA/honors classes) should be a prime Ivy League target.

Antonio Singleton                          6’4”     2014   Cabrillo (Long Beach CA)
Strong wing put points on the board via either his nice perimeter stroke or his physical drives to the cup.

Spencer Freedman                        5’11”  2018   Pacific Palisades CA
High basketball IQ floor general is a 3-point “flame-thrower” CBS Sports Network analyst and former NBA player Wally Szczerbiak  would love.  Very underrated ballhandler and passer too.

Christian Berry                               6’3”     2014   West Ranch (Stevenson Ranch CA)
Slashing scoring WG is quick off the bounce.

Harrison Butler                               6’3”     2018   Huntington Beach CA
Son of former Ocean View/UC-Irvine star forward Ricky Butler is an emerging young talent in his own right.  Strong and physical wing has an accurate perimeter stroke.

Kevin Dinges                                   6’5”     2015   Crescenta Valley (La Crescenta CA)Sharp-shooting wing with excellent academics has grown 2 inches since last summer.

Jerry Anthony                                 6’0”     2014   Crenshaw (Los Angeles CA
Quick lead guard can score off the bounce and is a pesky defender.

Brian Enriquez                                6’3”     2014   La Mirada (La Mirada CA)
Heady senior combo-guard is a legitimate 3-point threat.

Riley Battin                                      6’7”     2018   Westlake CA
Brian Scalabrine-type power forward plays with great energy and has range to the 3-point line.
