Hot bats not enough, West Central succumbs to LaCrosse, 11-10

Seventeen hits weren't enough for West Central as it lost a shootout, 11-10 in seven innings, to LaCrosse on Thursday at West Central. Jutine Kruger got a hit in each of her five at bats. She tripled in the fourth inning and singled in the first, third, sixth, and seventh innings. Fox, Sievers and Mareska helped lead LaCrosse. They combined for eight hits and five RBIs. Joelyn Flotow showed good command, throwing strikes on 91 of her 125 pitches. Flotow struck out nine and walked two for West Central. LaCrosse stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring three runs on two errors and a sacrifice fly by Sievers.
West Central got two-run boosts in each of the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth. In the first, West Central scored on an RBI single by Kruger, plating Cortney Feuquay. LaCrosse piled on three more runs in the top of the second. A ground out scored Tucker to get LaCrosse on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Sievers' single, scoring Long. One run in the bottom of the third helped West Central close its deficit to 6-3. A groundout by Cali Fairchild fueled West Central's comeback. But, Mareska got Shelby Powell to ground out to end the inning.
LaCrosse increased its lead with four runs in the fourth. A error scored Sievers and Mareska for the inning's first run. That was followed up by Tucker's single, bringing home Chambers. Two West Central runs crossed the plate in the bottom half of the fifth, making the score 10-7. A two-run single by Lexi Foerg gave West Central life. LaCrosse stopped the rally after Mareska got Sarah Becker to ground out.
After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the sixth, West Central faced just a 10-9 deficit. An RBI triple by Fairchild and an RBI single by Powell sparked West Central's rally. Finally, Mareska got Autumn Wireman to ground out to end the threat. One run in the bottom of the seventh helped West Central close its deficit to 11-10. An RBI single by Flotow triggered West Central's comeback. Mareska ended the game by getting Ashton Barkho to strike out.
