August 23, 2012
By Vernon Whittington of West High School

Abby Pino and her Cowgirl family member are on the move! Abby Pino becomes the first student athlete to play college basketball from Coach Whittington (coach V)'s program. Pino will take her talents to the state of Missouri to play for Cottey College located in Nevada; MO. Abby is very happy to play at the next level but will have a full plate! She will be a three sport student athlete for the Comets as she will also compete on the Volleyball and Softball teams. The Cottey College Comets compete in the NJCAA as a part of the Region XVI where they finished 6-17. Abby will study for her Associate in Science with the option moving on to the University of New Mexico to study nursing or staying at Cottey for a Bachelor of Arts degree. Coach V is very proud of Abby (Pino-Colada) Pino for taking this step and for the direction the Denver West Cowgirl program is going. Also moving on this week is three year starter and team captain Toni (TIG-Toni the Tiger) Gant. She along with Brea (JLo) Castillo are heading north to UNC, While not playing any sports will be great students! Amaryss Rodriguez will be attending the Metro State University of Denver where she will be studying Criminal Justice and plans on playing basketball and softball intramurals. Denver West is proud of its student athletes and wishes them the best of luck!
