Bonduel Hosts Best Weather Meet of the Year.... So Far
May 23, 2009 By wfrunning Behnke of Weyauwega-Fremont High School
Bonduel High School, and its new six lane rubber track, played host to five schools on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, and it turned into the nicest day of the year. Just gorgeous was the weather forecast, and just gorgeous it turned out to be.
Almond-Bancroft, Iola-Scandinavia, Menominee Indian, Weyauwega-Fremont, and Wolf River Lutheran invaded the Home of the Bears for a post conference tuneup meet.
It was all good for the Ladies from Wega, as they captured seven first place finishes along with six seconds and six thirds, to dominate the girls part of the meet.
Final scores for the girls event were: Wega-Fremont 172, Bonduel 141, Iola-Scandinavia 91, Almond-Bancroft 51, Wolf River Lutheran 14, and Menominee Indian 9.
The boys meet featured Iola and Bonduel who battled it out just this past Saturday for the CWC Large Division Conference Championship. On a neutral site, the T-Birds beat the Bonduel for the 2009 title.
At home the Bears returned the favor. The Wega boys managed a very solid third in the meet. Final scores were Bonduel 192, Iola 144, Wega 70, Menominee 54, Almond 25, and Wolf River Lutheran 3.
The guys managed just one first place finsh as the team of Gideon Wilz, Chris Miller, Kyle Loughrin, and Nate Volz earned the checkered flag in the first race of the day, the 3200 meter relay.
After that it was slim pickings for the boys from Wega.
Nate Volz in the 400, the 400 relay, and the 1600 relay teams were able to capture second place finishes. Gideon Wilz in the 800 meter run, and the 800 relay varsity squad, plus two non-scoring junior varsity relays at 1600 meters amd 3200 meters were able to capture third place finishes.
But the weather and times turned in were excellent heading into Tuesday's Regional competition at Appleton Xavier.
Named as the Most Outstanding Thinclads of the meet were Kyle Utecht, Kyle Loughrin, and Nate Volz.
Meanwhile, the girls were dominating the competition winning twenty places valued at six or more points. 7 first place finishes, six seconds, and six thirds totaled 154 points all by themselves. The girls had nine events where they scored ten or more points out of the seventeen events. Those nine events scored 128 points. And you can't score twice in relays as the Lady Indians had two junior varsity relays make third place non-scoring efforts.
It was a big night for the girls team all the way around. First place relays came in the 800, 1600, and 3200 relays, with the 400 meter relay team turning in their fastest time of the year for second.
Dacia Goetsch and Dani Johnson went 1-2 in the 300 hurdles. Ellen Schroeder and Brenda Paider went 1-4 in the 800 meter run. Brenda and Jackie Beyer went 1-3 in the 1600 meter run. And Taylor Tomaszewski, Dani Johnson, Kirsten Dailey, and Kaitie Gilbert went 1-2-4-6 in the triple jump scoring twenty-three big points for the girls from Wega. Katherine Cloninger chipped in second place finishes in the 400 meters with Dani Johnson 3rd, and with in the high jump with a new personal record height of 4'11".
It was just a solid effort coming on the heels of the Lady Indians big second place finish at conference this past Saturday.
Baned the Most Outstanding Girl Athletes were Dacia Goetsch, Kirsten Dailey, Lynn Zeinert, and Alisha Kloehn. |
