The Western Boone baseball team split with Frankfort, beating the Hot Dogs, 17-2 in five innings on Thursday in Sagamore Conference play. The Stars lost to Frankfort in 10 innings earlier this week after tying the game in the seventh inning.
"We have been waiting on a game like this for a while," Western Boone coach Rich Schelsky said. "We knew we had this in us, but getting it out of us was maybe a little more work than expected."
Frankfort scored its only two runs in the third inning after the Stars had already jumped to a 10-0 lead.
Western Boone's LV Bowden had four RBI and two runs, C.J. McMann had four RBI and one run. Levi Remley had a solid three RBI and three runs.
"It was great to see our offense finally give our pitchers that feeling of pitching with a substantial lead most of the game," Schelsky said. "We know that when we can put runs on the board that we can compete with everyone on our schedule."
Western Boone's Jared Knox pitched all five innings with six strikeouts.
"Jared Knox had his second strong outing of the season on the mound," Schelsky said. "We will rely on him rather heavily here coming down the stretch."
The Stars have five more regular season games on the schedule. The Sectional draw for baseball is next Tuesday, May 17.
