Stars Win Southmont Invitational

The Western Boone Boys & Girls Cross Country Teams were in action tonight at the 5-team Southmont Invitational.  The boys team took first place and the girls team finished third overall. Other teams competing in the invitational included Benton Central, Southmont, Lebanon, and Crawfordsville.

The boys team managed to get six runners in the top 10.  Connor Smith led the way for the Stars finishing with a time of 19:36 (4th overall).  Zach Wade wasn't far behind, finishing only two seconds behind Smith (5th overall).  Most of the varsity squad finished in a pack between 20:20-20:41 which included Doug Mathis (6th), Justin Foxworthy (8th), Grant Stauffer (9th), and Cody Rice (10th). 

"I love the competitiveness of these guys," said head coach Dustin Harrison.  "Wade and Smith pushed each other the whole race, and the rest of the group really battled one another as well.  We are a family.  We may battle one another like crazy during the race, but once it's over, everyone is back to being best friends."

The girls team was led by Madi Gourley, with a time of 24:42 (7th overall). Other girls scoring for the Stars included Lindsey Olsen (9th), Hannah Hayden (12th), Alexis Goglia (15th), and Erin Biddle (19th).

"These girls are young and still improving, and it definitely shows in their consistency.  However, I am confident that they will continue to work hard and get better," said Harrison.

Overall Team Scores for the Boys Race: Webo 32, Crawfordsville 44, Lebanon 87, Southmont 95, and Benton Central 96.

Overall Team Scores for the Girls Race: Lebanon 44, Benton Central 45, Webo 56, Southmont 82, and Crawfordsville INCL.

The Stars will be in action on Thursday at the Landes Invitational, held at Hamilton Heights.
