Andy Nice - Grinders Switch Player of the Week

Phil and I were looking for a battle to say the least when Salem came marching into Eastern 1/28/2012.  We knew emotions would run high and for a county rivalry game, that speaks volumes.   Honestly, we were expecting a Salem team that would man handle Eastern, that wasn’t the case.  Scott Newcomb came prepared.  He scouted out the Lions extremely well and had all the bases covered.....except for one.  Andy Nice.   Andy played exceptional ball.  Although the stats don't tell the full story, 17 points, 74% from the field, multiple rebounds for a guard, overall not bad.  It’s what he did without the ball that showed incredible poise, attitude, and skill.  He single handedly controlled the ball, pace and tempo for the Lions even though they were down for most of the game.  That didn't stop Andy.  With the chips stacked against him and the Lions, he battled back finding the open men and cut passes in the lane to whittle a 7 point Eastern lead to a Salem "W".  That is the definition of a true field general and leader of a team.  For that....we say....keep your engine runnin'.
