> SOUTHERN INDIANA — >> BOYS

BROWNSTOWN AT SILVER CREEK

• DATE: Friday

• TIME: 7:30 p.m.

• RECORDS: Silver Creek 6-5 overall, 3-1 Mid-Southern Conference; Brownstown 10-0, 3-0.

• BREAKDOWN: This is a must-win game for the Dragons if they are to capture their first MSC title since the 1998-99 season. But it will not be easy as the Braves enter with a perfect record, the No. 5 ranking in the latest Associated Press Class 3A poll and have won at least a share of the last two MSC titles. Brownstown has won 22 out of its last 23 MSC games and has not lost a conference road game since Feb. 14, 2009 at Austin. Silver Creek has not defeated Brownstown since Jan. 11, 2008, which was a 51-49 home overtime victory.

JEFFERSONVILLE AT FLOYD CENTRAL

• DATE: Friday

• TIME: 7:30 p.m.

• RECORDS: Jeff 6-2, 3-0 Hoosier Hills Conference; Floyd Central 6-6, 1-1.

• BREAKDOWN: The Red Devils, who lead the all-time series 45-18, have won 11 straight contests over the Highlanders and 26 of the last 27 in the series. But recent victories over Floyd Central have not been easy. Jeff has prevailed by single digits in five of the last seven matchups with the Highlanders, winning two of them in overtime. Friday’s game also is important in the HHC title race. The Red Devils are the only team in the league without a conference loss, while Floyd Central is one of four HHC teams with one loss apiece.

CLARKSVILLE AT CORYDON

• DATE: Friday

• TIME: 7:30 p.m.

• RECORDS: Clarksville 10-0, 3-0 MSC; Corydon 4-5, 1-1.

• BREAKDOWN: If the Generals are to claim the MSC crown, they must find a way to win on the road. One of the toughest places for Clarksville to earn an MSC road victory in the past several seasons is Corydon. The Generals’ last victory on the Panthers’ home court was Jan. 16, 1998, 67-63. Prior to its 56-47 at Charlestown on Dec. 9, Clarksville had lost 14 of its last 15 conference road games. The Generals are currently tied for first place in the MSC with Brownstown.

PROVIDENCE AT JEFF

• DATE: Saturday

• TIME: 7:30 p.m.

• RECORDS: Providence 8-2, Jeff 6-2.

• BREAKDOWN: The Pioneers have not defeated the Red Devils since Jan. 12, 2008. It also was the last time Providence has won at Johnson Arena. Jeff leads the all-time series with its Clark County rival 51-13, and has won 25 of the last 28 meetings with the Pioneers. Saturday’s matchup will pit one of the top scoring teams in the state against one of the best defensive squads in Indiana. The Red Devils rank 15th in the state in points per game at 71.4. The Pioneers rank 11th in the Hoosier State in scoring defense, yielding 41.7 points a contest.

NEW ALBANY AT COLUMBUS EAST

• DATE: Saturday

• TIME: 1:30 p.m.

• RECORDS: New Albany 11-2, 3-1 HHC; Columbus East 10-3, 1-1.

• BREAKDOWN: The Bulldogs’ HHC title hopes will face a major hurdle on Saturday against the Olympians, who rank 19th in the state in scoring at 63.5 points per game. Both teams need to win to stay within striking distance of first-place Bedford North Lawrence (3-0 HHC). The Bulldogs are currently tied for second place with Seymour. Columbus East is a game and a half behind the Stars, but the Olympians suffered a major hit in their conference championship hopes last Tuesday with a 72-71 four-overtime loss at Seymour. The last time New Albany won at East was Jan. 18, 2003.
