Shawnee High School would like to announce the hiring of Steve Owen to the position of Head Varsity Football Coach. Steve is a 1989 graduate of Shawnee High School. In 1993, he graduated from Bluffton University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Recreation Management. In 1999, he earned his teaching degree from Bluffton University and has been a teacher at Shawnee High School for 14 years where he teaches Special Education.

Football has always been a love of Steve’s as he was a two year letter winner at Shawnee High School as a defensive lineman and specialist. He went on to play at the collegiate level and was a three year letter winner at Bluffton College as an offensive lineman.

For the past 20 years, Steve has been a varsity assistant football coach serving under former Shawnee head coaches Dave Hieneman and Dick West. During that time, he has gained valuable experience as he has coached the offensive line, the defensive line, running backs, kickers, and long snappers.

Coach Owen’s vision is to continue to build on the football foundation that is currently in place at Shawnee High School. To accomplish this it is his desire to develop a solid coaching staff that will build a positive experience for the athletes. Steve is looking forward to the athletes dedicating themselves to the program in order for them to reach their goals. He wants committed players who are willing to work hard as a team to make the Shawnee Community proud. He believes that it is imperative to develop a strong, dedicated coaching staff that will teach his program to the players. He is confident that the players will work hard to bring football successes to Shawnee High School.

Steve and his wife Paula are the parents of two sons; Matthew age 7 and William age 5.
