ALEDO, Ill. — The Illini West Chargers advanced to the Illinois Class 1A girls cross country sectional.
Illini West finished fifth at the Mercer County Regional Saturday. The top seven teams qualified for the sectional meet that will be held in Elmwood.
The Chargers finished with 113 points. Macomb won the regional title with 63 points. Monmouth-Roseville was the runner-up with 89 points. Also advancing were Sherrard, Knoxville, Lewistown and Mercer County.
Carly Garnett was fifth overall to lead Illini West. She ran a time of 19:24.
Morgan Groth added a top-10 finish for the Chargers. She placed 10th with a time of 20:42.
Mariah Brodie was 12th for Illini West with a time of 20:55. Lauren White placed 35th with a time of 23:48, and Ellen Gambrell finished 51st with a time of 26:01.
West Hancock did not have enough runners for a team score. Samantha Syfert and Aleetha Mulch were 30th and 31st. Both finished with times of 23:27.
Lewistown’s Ericka Hibser won the regional title with a time of 19:17. Individuals not from advancing teams to qualify were: Mallory Tharp, United, 11th, 20:49; Kirsetn Brown, Havana, 15th, 21:03; Caitlin Bishop, United, 18th, 21:27; Laikyn Singleton, Rockridge, 19th, 21:56; and Carly Walker, Rockridge, 26th, 22:50.
Illini West’s Chance Haes and Tucker Huston and West Hancock’s Tyler Adams advanced to the boys cross county sectional in Class 1A.
Haes, Huston and Adams claimed three of the five spots for individuals who were not from an advancing team. Haes finished 25th overall with a time of 18:55. Huston followed in 26th with a time of 19:05, and Adams finished 28th with a time of 19:15.
Havana’s Emilio Quinones won the regional title with a time of 16:44. Cameron Lippert, also of Havana, was the final individual to qualify. He placed 30th overall with a time of 19:22.
Monmouth-Roseville won the regional team title with 31 points. Mercer County was the runner-up with 77 points.
Also advancing to the Elmwood Sectional were Macomb, Knoxvile, Sherrard, Rockridge and Rushville-Industry.
Illini West was eighth as a team. Also running for the Chargers were: Dustin Huss, 32nd, 19:36; Kevin Oliver, 42nd, 20:13; Mason Roth, 44th, 20:15; Wyatt Newberry, 59th, 21:07; and Seth Le’Jeune, 63rd, 22:01.
West Hancock did not have enough runners for a team score. Joseprh Corvaia was 40th for the Titans with a time of 19:49. Jacob Althar was 69th with a time of 21:31, and Nick Nagel finished 75th with a time of 22:22.
