MOUNT VERNON — Jacob Ayers, a sophomore from Hamilton, Ill., turned in two strong performances for the Iowa Wesleyan men’s track and field team at the Cornell Hilltop Invitational over the weekend.
Ayers ran the one-mile and the 3,000-meter events. He placed 20th in the mile with a time of 4:52.23, which was less than 1.5 seconds off his personal best. He finished 14th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:54.34, knocking 19 seconds off his previous best time. The time also was good enough to place him second all-time at Iowa Wesleyan in the event.

Iowa Wesleyan competes in the Knox College Indoor Open in Galesburg, Ill., Saturday.
