Titans sixth at QND Tournament

QUINCY, Ill. — The West Hancock Titans finished sixth among 17 teams at the 22nd annual Quincy Notre Dame Wrestling Tournament Saturday.

Kirksville won the team title with 200.5 points. Quincy Notre Dame was second with 185.5 points, and Beardstown took third with 174 points.

West Hancock scored 104 points. The Titans had six place-winners in the tournament.

Will Lucie won the individual title at 106 pounds. After opening with a bye, Lucie pinned Pittsfield’s Hayden Osment in 2:52. Lucie, ranked eight at 106 pounds in Class 1A, won a 7-4 decision over Central-Southeastern’s Jared Welty, ranked 10th in 1A, in the semifinals. Lucie won the title with a pin in 5:59 over East St. Louis’ Antonio Moore.

Jack Lucie, ranked fifth in Class 1A at 126 pounds, won the tournament title in the weight class.

Lucie opened with a bye before pinning Jacksonville’s Tristen LeBlanc in 51 seconds in the quarterfinals. Lucie pinned Quincy Notre Dame’s Jonathan Horack in 1:48 in the semifinals, and scored a 5-0 decision over East St. Louis’ Don Cavitt in the final.

Freddy Lopez finished second at 195 pounds for the Titans.

Lopez started with a bye and pinned Jacksonville’s Zach Stout in 5:46 in the quarterfinal. Lopez pinned Kirksville’s Kade Procter in 4:20 in the semifinal, but fell to Quincy Notre Dame’s Jeffrey Haley in the final. Haley, ranked eighth in Class 1A, won an 11-0 major decision over Lopez, ranked 15th in 1A.

John Koehler was sixth at 182 pounds for West Hancock.

Koehler got an opening round bye. He fell to Macomb’s Matt Surprenant, ranked third in Class 1A, by pin in 2:58. Koehler bounced back to win a 3-1 decision over Beardstown’s Germaine Lawson, but lost the match for fifth place to Paxton-Buckley’s Conrad Powell by a 7-0 decision.

Daniel Allen finished seventh at 220 pounds.

Allen opened with a pin in 1:57 over St. Thomas More’s Al Griffin. Tucker Ham, ranked fifth in Class 1A at 195 pounds, pinned Allen in 5:00 in the quarterfinals. Allen came back with a pin in 5:41 over Sacred Heart Griffin’s Mick Londrigen. Pittsfield’s Cody Carter won a 3-2 decision over Allen, but the West Hancock junior finished with a pin in 2:40 over Paxton Buckley’s Will Boman.

Devin Beaston placed eighth at 113 pounds for West Hancock.

Beaston started with a 16-6 major decision over Kirksville’s Gavin Bedford. Beardstown’s Antonio Quintana, ranked 11th in Class 1A, pinned Beaston in 32 seconds. Beaston scored a 13-5 major decision over Central-Southeastern’s Ethan Deege in the wrestleback, but the West Hancock freshman dropped his final two matches. He was pinned by Springfield Lanphier’s Hunter Foster in 51 seconds, and lost a 16-3 major decision to Quincy Notre Dame’s Riley Glesing.

John Ruffcorn went 1-2 at 152 pounds. He pinned Paxton-Buckley’s Ben Bahler in 1:16.

Jacob Lowman (12), Zack Ferdig (138), Dakota Ruffcorn (145), Luke Lowman (160) and Josh Espinoza (170) each went 0-2 for West Hancock.

The Titans are at the Macomb Regional Saturday.
