ROCHESTER, Ill. — The West Hancock Titans placed fourth among 12 wrestling teams at the Rochester Rocket Invite Saturday.
Rochester won the team title with 111 points. Springfield SouthEast was second with 100 points, and Sacred Heart Griffin took third with 91 points.
West Hancock won three weight classes and finished with 79 points.
Will Lucie won the title at 106 pounds. He received a bye in the quarterfinal, scored a pin over Rochester’s Jake Crawford in the semifinal and won by technical fall (16-1) in the final against Havana’s Ryan Hopkins.
Lucie is 19-4 on the season.
Jack Lucie took first at 126 pounds. He pinned Sacred Heart Griffin’s Tucker Schmidt in the quarter, scored a 15-0 technical fall over East Alton Wood River’s Mike Hall in the semifinal and pinned Tolono Unity’s Chad Hinton in the final.
Lucie is 25-1 on the season.
Freddy Lopez finished first at 195 pounds. He received a bye in the quarterfinal, pinned Havana’s Colton Prater in the semifinal and pinned Springfield SouthEast’s Daniel Pasko for the championship.
Dakota Ruffcorn went 1-1 to finish third at 145 pounds. He dropped a 14-5 major decision to Carlinville’s Lukas Cottingham in the semifinal, but pinned Tolono Unity’s Chris Branson for third.
Luke Lowman and John Koehler each placed fourth.
Lowman opened with a quarterfinal win by pin over East Alton Wood River’s Damian McLemore at 160 pounds. He lost a 6-1 decision in the semifinal to Rochester’s Liam Biesada. Lowman pinned Tolono Unity’s Cameron Spomer, but lost the third-place match ti Springfield SouthEast’s Nick Haley.
Koehler lost a 7-3 decision to Springfield SouthEast’s Deantae Logan at 182 pounds, but he scored a 6-0 decision over Rochester’s Jesse Williams. Koehler met Logan in a rematch for third place, but Logan scored a 4-2 decision.
John Ruffcorn won two matches to take fifth at 152 pounds. He pinned Riverton’s Andrew Hofferkamp in the quarterfinal and for fifth place.
Jacob Lowman placed sixth at 120 pounds. Devin Beaston was 2-2 at 113 pounds, but did not place. Zack Ferdig competed at 138 pounds.
