WALLACE — UNC Wilmington senior Lori Beth Adams won medalist honors in the UNCW Seahawk Classic, while team honors went to the university from the town where she graduated high school.
Adams, a Western Alamance graduate, posted an even-par 72 in the final round Sunday on the River Course at the River Landing Golf Course.
The team championship in the nine-team field was won by Elon.
Adams had earlier rounds of 74 and 71 on the way to besting the field that consisted of 50 golfers. She finished at 1-over 217.
For Adams, it was the first individual title in her college career. She became the fifth UNCW golfer to earn medalist honors in the UNCW Seahawk Classic.
Elon’s Kelsey Badmaev at 221 (73, 73, 75) and Sunna Vidisdottir at 223 (69, 77, 77) claimed second and third place, respectively, to pace a Phoenix lineup that led wire-to-wire. Elon’s team score of 907 was eight strokes better than UNCW.
Badmaev and Vidisdottir, a freshman and sophomore, respectively, had their best collegiate finishes.
Defending champion Old Dominion was third with 920.
It was the second team crown for Elon this season, marking the first time since the 2009-10 school year that the Phoenix captured two first-place finishes in the same season.
Kathryn Buckingham of Elon tied for 13th place at 231 (75, 75, 81). Kati Partridge was 27th with 240 (80, 86, 74) and Emily Brooks tied for 32nd with 243 (84, 81, 78).
