Erin Leasure qualifies for Tennis Regionals

Western Alamance’s Erin Leasure won two matches in Wednesday’s Mid-State 3-A Conference Tournament for girls’ tennis at the Burlington Tennis Center.

Leasure became one of five in the conference to qualify for the regionals.

Leasure defeated Eastern Alamance’s Jamisen Royal 6-3, 7-5 in the first round of the tournament and defeated Williams High School’s Emily Bailey 6-3, 6-1 in the second round.

On the doubles side, the Williams team of Kristen Marshall and Lana Waschka and the Eastern Alamance doubles team of Brittany Dix and Laura Jimenez qualified for the regional championship.

Marshall and Waschka defeated the Eastern Alamance team of Natalie Charamut and Mackenzie Ballard, in the first round 6-1, 6-0 before defeating the Rockingham County pair of Sarah Holmes and Sarah Cochran 6-3, 6-1.

Dix and Jimenez came out winners in a tight 7-6 (2), 7-5 victory against Rockingham County’s Lindsey Jobe and Jenna Robertson. The Eastern Alamance pair then defeated Eden Morehead’s Logan Wood and Clara Haynes 6-2, 6-3 to punch their tickets to the regional championship.
