The VYPE Weekend Rewind by A-Stat

VYPE MAGAZINE - West Houston

War Eagle: The Auburn swimming and diving team has enjoyed a rich history of success as they have recorded 15-straight SEC titles. As the third-ranked recruit in the state of Texas, Jordan Jones of Kingwood is set to join the Tigers next fall after committing late last week over offers from Tennessee and Arizona. “I chose Auburn for its history of success, incredible coaches, and their family-like team,” said Jones. “Not only does the swim team have a great reputation but also their vet program's reputation is outstanding, which is my field of interest.”

Defense Standing Tall: Following a disappointing loss to Lufkin in week six, The Woodlands defense has stifled opposing offenses by recording back-to-back shutouts. In the two games since falling to the Panthers, the Highlanders have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 80-0.

Trey Williams Dazzles: Just 25 seconds into Thursday’s game against Klein, Trey Williams had already found the endzone with a 20-yard touchdown run. Of Dekaney’s 272 total yards in a 42-10 dominating effort, Williams notched 161 yards and four touchdowns on just 12 carries. While playing predominantly in the first half, Williams averaged an astonishing 13.4 yards per carry.

Homecoming Woes: Tradition says; don’t schedule a powerhouse on homecoming. Unfortunately for Memorial, Katy was on the docket for the annual event. The Tigers rolled in a 45-0 shutout win against the Mustangs to improve to 8-0 on the season with a 5-0 mark in district 19-5A action. Overall this season, the first-string defense for Katy has allowed just 17 points in eight games.

Highly Accurate: Completing over 65 percent of his passes this year, Katy’s Brooks Haack has found the endzone 23 times while throwing for 1391 yards. More impressively, the senior standout has not thrown an interception in 123 pass attempts.

Playoff Streak in Jeopardy: North Shore has been a fixture in the Texas playoffs for years. However, after a 38-30 loss to La Porte on Friday night – the first win against North Shore in 14 years – the Mustangs are in jeopardy of missing the postseason after falling to 1-2 in district 21-5A action.
