No. 12 The Seven Lakes Spartans

COACH: Dan Miller

DISTRICT: 19-5A

LAST SEASON: Reached the Regional Semis

For back-to-back seasons, the Seven Lakes basketball team reached the regional semis. Last season the Spartans finished 33-7, but the year came to a close after a loss to Hightower. Now it’s time to reload and get another season going.

“Our junior varsity and ninth grade team was 24-1, so we have some good young kids coming through,” Seven Lakes coach Dan Miller said. Miller has built a program which has the most Class 5A wins in Houston the past four seasons.

That may the future, but here is the now as Miller will have a solid core of seniors to help hold down the fort. One of the players to watch for this upcoming season will be 6-foot-6 senior Ryan McClurg, a player Miller said “has improved and is one of the better big men in Houston.”

Sharp-shooting senior Alec Colhoff returns as does shooter and slasher Jeff Martin as well. Jacob Ranta and Ryan Manefa are the other Spartan senior guys. In the junior class, big men Stanley Kenu and Paulo Otero will handle things down low, while forward Jake Terry and guards King Turnbull and Kendall Hayes round out the class.

As for the upcoming youth, sophomore wing player Boaz Williams is expected to make significant contributions this season. Sid Turnbull is the other sophomore on the roster.
