The Bush Broncos

Taking the next step

2011 Overall Record: 8-4

Head Coach: Allen Aldridge

Postseason: Lost in the Second-Round to La Porte

By Ahmard Vital

CUTLINE: Ronald and Donald Monroe will facilitate the offense, while Chad Davis will knock heads in the secondary.

Last season, the Bush Broncos team broke through and made it to the playoffs. Even more so, earned a playoff win. So what does success like that do for a team?

For one, it builds confidence and builds towards a tradition that many of the fairly new programs across the Greater Houston-area are looking for. Going forward, the Broncos are poised for another great season.

Leading the offense will be Ronald Monroe, who is considered one of the top 2014 QBs in Texas. Twin brother Donald, a 6-foot-2 receiver, will be sidelined entering the season with a knee injury.

Names like Marcus Young, Javante McGill, Dominique Rogers and Charles Willbright will rotate at the running back position to take some of the pressure off of Monroe.

“We will have a running back committee of four,” coach Allen Aldridge said. “Some can pound it and others will run around. We even have a few who can get into the open field and line up as a slot receiver.”

So, for the most part, the offense is in good hands. But the area of concern was on the defense. Aldridge said that they lost a lot to graduation.

“With our defense, we didn’t know where we would be. Our main concern was the defensive line,” Aldridge said. “We lost a total of three lineman, but we had some good players come in and step up. It was a shocker to see how far these guys came along.”

The Bronco offense will be easier to rely on in the coming season. The defense, however, will need to keep stepping up to keep up with the offense’s coming success. Bush will also need to keep up the momentum they felt in the spring to push for another run into the postseason.
